Lesley-Anne Laux's DeLaux Soaps Dream...

Photo of owner Lesley-Anne Laux in front of a brick and mortar display of DeLaux Soaps in a store in Milford, Pennsylvania.

I was a hair salon receptionist at JCPenney for 8 years and I loved it. When I was 7 months pregnant, I was laid off because of new management. Everyone I worked with, including my boss, tried to keep my position, but it wasn't meant to be.  My husband suggested that I take on the roll of being a full-time stay at home Mom. Although I enjoyed my time spent at home with my boy, after a year, I got antsy and I needed something else to keep my sanity. I really wanted to contribute by helping out with the household bills.

I took a trip to Michael’s insearch of something that I could make & sell. I found a soap making kit and got excited by the thought of making soap like the Pennsylvania Amish. I researched everything I needed to know about making it from scratch. It was intimidating because you are required to use lye (sodium hydroxide) in order to make soap. The Saponification Process is the chemical reaction between oil, water and lye. I use the hot process method which cooks the lye out before I pour it into the molds. I conquered the process and now I’m my own boss!

DeLaux Soaps is the name of my business & I’ve been a soap maker since 2015!
